Sometimes the Eyes Really Are Bigger than the Stomach!

I'd sat in the hide since sunrise and the light was starting to get too harsh and my eyes were tiring. And then I noticed this grey heron trying to eat a fish it absolutely had no right to eat. The fish was simply enormous. For a good 10-15 minutes the heron tossed the fish around, got it half in its neck, spat it out, tried to swallow it again, spat it out, and so on. Eventually, the fish did succumb to the heron's greed. But it had to stand and wait around for a good hour afterwards such was the weight of its new payload!
