Down in One
During my week in Pusztaszer, this was the only time I saw a squacco heron. It arrived when the pool in the reeds was fairly quiet. After sussing out its companions (a little egret and a night heron), it started to hunt and I managed to capture this image just as it's about to throw its head back and swallow its prey. Shortly after that, the larger birds arrived (a fairly aggressive grey heron and a great egret) and the squacco departed.
